"Why Does Uncle Jack Have Hair in His Ear?"
For Avery (my friends' younger daughter), inspired by her question, one evening at dinner.

Why Does Uncle Jack have hair in his ear?
Well, should it be atop my head?
But there is no hair anywhere up there,
So where should it be instead?
On the tip of my nose, I suppose,
How silly! We all know there is no hair on the tip of one's nose,
So, the question remains, where should Uncle Jack have hair?
On his face? But, hmm, there is no hair that we see there.
So we look and we look and what do we find?
Wait! Is that a hair I see over there?
No, not in the ear, but elsewhere -
Gee what's that in Uncle Jack's nose?
A booger? No, that could be a hair, I do suppose -
It moved out of the ear, it was too noisy in there,
And now it's resting quietly without worry or woes.
But suddenly a sprinkle of dust gets in the nose,
And just as suddenly the nose explodes -
A - a - a - chu!
The sneeze so disturbed the hair it had to move;
I'll have to find someplace new, said the hair,
But where should I go, oh where, oh where?
Where did it go? Wait, what's this I find when I remove my shoes?
What new home did the hair finally choose?
The hair has moved from Uncle Jack's nose
And found a new home on Uncle Jack's toes!
Now the funny part is, the next time I looked at my toes
I realized there was no hair, nothing shows!
So, now the question is, where did that hair go?
Oh my, oh my! I do not know.
I guess it wants to be alone
So the hair secretly found a new home
In the ear, in the nose,
On face or head – no one knows…
But if we look hard, we might find the hair
Resting quietly with other hairs –
Over here, over there, over there, over here!
